Less than a week remains before the start of Exe Flegrei 2024. The exercise is scheduled for October 9-12 in the Campi Flegrei red zone to test the National Planning for volcanic risk.

To encourage exercise activities among citizens, information points will be established on the weekend of October 5 and 6 in the busiest locations, such as squares, municipal villas, markets, and supermarkets in the seven municipalities in the red zone - Bacoli, Monte di Procida, Pozzuoli, Quarto, and parts of the municipalities of Giugliano in Campania, Marano di Napoli, and some neighborhoods in Naples.

Representatives from local institutions and trained civil protection volunteers at the blue gazebos will provide citizens with more information about the upcoming exercise. They will invite people to participate in the activities planned for the morning of October 12, which will simulate the evacuation of residents from the red zone.

During this event, citizens will receive the "Knowing the caldera - Bradyseism, gas emissions, and possible volcanic eruptions" booklet for the first time. The booklet, edited by the Campania Region and the Civil Protection Department in collaboration with the Vesuvius Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, aims to provide citizens with essential information about the Phlegraean Fields. It covers topics such as the volcanic nature of the caldera, bradyseism, the risk of a possible eruption, monitoring activities, civil protection planning, and the correct behaviors to adopt in an emergency.

The theme of volcanic risk in the Phlegraean Fields was already included in the "I don't take risks" campaign in 2019, the year when the previous national civil protection exercise took place. However, due to the escalation of the bradyseismic crisis since September 2023, there was a need to update the campaign materials. As a result, this new booklet has been produced.

Details on the locations and opening hours of the information points are available on the Campania Region's website at this link.
